The institute started offering a 4-year B.E. course in
Information Technology when Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj
Nagpur University (then Nagpur University) for the first
time introduced the said course in the year 1999. The
Department of Information Technology played a lead role
in framing the curriculum for the course in the
University.
The course was offered initially with an annual intake
of 60 students, which has presently been increased to 90
students.
The department hosts three well equipped and well
furnished computer centres having computer systems with
latest configurations. The department also hosts
Microprocessors laboratory with 8085 and 8086
experimentation kits, micro-controller kits, peripheral
add-ons and specialized experimentation setup (viz.,
8055, 8059, 8279, and 8051, etc.) as required in the
course curriculum.
The computer centres are well equipped with the latest
software for conducting the laboratory
practical/experimentation work of the curriculum, latest
and up-to-date hardware and computer peripherals.
Over 120+ computer systems are networked with Wi-Fi
connectivity. All computer centres share the
Institute-wide Internet bandwidth of 2 Mbps. Central
Computing facility is maintained by the department where
the students can connect to the Internet during their
off-hours.
A team of 16 dedicated and qualified teaching staff and
3 trained technical/support staff adds to the strength
of the department and has a good mix of expertise and
experience.
The department has been sponsoring the staff members for
pursuing higher studies to IITs and NITs. The staff
members are encouraged to participate and attend the
FDPs, STTPs and Workshops.
The department with the Department of Computer
Technology houses a Departmental Library having over
625+ titles covering diversified areas of computer
science and information technology. Besides this a VCD
collection of around 179+ VCDs by eminent IIT professors
on subjects like Database Management Systems, Digital
Image Processing, Software Engineering, Data Structures,
etc., is also available for students and faculty. The
students also have direct access to Project Reports of
the previous years.
The department has been associated with IBM through
their Centre of Excellence, established in the
Department of Computer Technology. The staff and
students of the department have been participating in
DB2 and RAD certification programs organized by IBM and
have been certified by IBM. The students of final year
B.E. have been a part of IBM TGMC for past 3 years.
Recently 2 teams have advanced into second round of
TGMC-2010.
Our students have always made their presence felt among
other engineering/technical institutes/colleges by
securing university ranks in examinations. For them this
has been a tradition.
Our alumni are working with software majors like Infosys,
IBM, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Persistent Systems Pvt. Ltd.,
PCS, Syntel, etc. They have always been a source of
inspiration and guidance for the persuing
undergraduates.
Students, through INFOQUEST – the Information Technology
Forum, are provided a platform to excel in areas other
than academics and prepare them for the fierce
competition. The forum has an Executive Body of students
supervised by Staff-in-Charge(s). The activities are
planned and executed by and for the upcoming technocrats
to help sharpen their technical knowledge,
inter-personal skills and aptitude through programming
contests, seminars, quizzes, mock-interviews, etc.
