This department includes basic sciences (viz. Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics and Applied Chemistry) , English and Social Sciences.  Each branch has sophisticated instruments and experienced faculty. Some of the young faculty members are pursuing for their Ph.D. programs.  The only department which has four approved Professors and working with this institute from its inception. All the branches are actively involved in R & D and published more than 100 research papers in National and International Journals of repute.  Recently one of the professor Prof. Dr. K.T.Thomas was also elected as a member in the Board of Studies, R.T.M.Nagpur University, Nagpur.

The other details pertinent to laboratories and faculty is as follows
1

The Chemistry faculty of the department presently caters to the needs of teaching of applied chemistry with all sophisticated instruments and standard glassware to enable the students to perform volumetric exercises and experiments based on instrumental methods of analysis with spectrophotometer, Bomb calorimeter, pH meter, conductivity bridges and potentiometers, etc. In addition Engg. chemistry experiments using Viscometers and other fuel testing equipment are also performed.
The teaching staff of the Dept. are actively engaged in research and obtained  Ph.D. . Recently a few research publications have appeared in journals of international repute viz. Indian Journal of Chemical Technology ( a CSIR publication) and Asian Journal of Chemistry.  The department also established a research lab to carry-out the R & D which has advanced and sophisticated infrastructure worth Rs.2.5 lakhs. Apart from attending  various prestigious National Conferences/Work-shops and other Teacher Training Programmes.

  •  Kinetic Studies of Saponification Processes – Chemical Kinetics
  • Assessment of Assimilative capacity and source apportionment analysis of air pollutions in ambient air-Environments Chemistry.

The Applied chemistry branch has so far published about 45 research papers in various National and International Journals. Recently, one R & D Project    Rs.17.59 Lakhs was successfully completed and the report has sent to Coal India Limited.

The Physics faculty presently caters to teaching of 'Applied Physics' at the B.E. I year level. It has well equipped laboratories with up-to-date facilities required for undergraduate level courses as per the Nagpur University syllabus. The Solid State Physics Laboratory has modern instruments such as Dual Trace Oscilloscopes, Hall Effect Apparatus, Four Probe Apparatus, Solar Cell Characteristics Apparatus, etc. Most of the experimental kits are fabricated in the Department itself. The Optics Lab is equipped with He-Ne LASER and “Light propagation in Optical Fibres” demonstration kit in addition to other usual equipments.
The Physics faculty has published the following NINE books:

  1. A Text Book of Engineering Physics
  2. Numerical Examples in Engineering Physics
  3. Problems in Physics
  4. Experiments in Engineering Physics
  5. An Introduction to Theory and Application of Lasers.
  6. A Text Book of Optics
  7. S.Chand “Engineering Physics” for Anna University, Tamilnadu
  8. Basic Engineering Physics for R.G.P.University, M.P.
  9. Engineering Physics for V.T.University, Karnataka

urrently, three staff members, Shri J. Shankar, Shri Uddal B.Hatwar and Shri Yogiraj Bakale are working for their Ph.D. in the areas of Solid State and Polymer Physics.  About TEN research papers have been published so far in National and International Journals

The Applied Mathematics faculty offers basic and advanced courses in mathematics to the students of all branches and prepares them with the necessary fundamentals required for the respective specialization with close interaction with the various engineering departments. The staff members are encouraged to improve their qualifications by registering for M.Phil and Ph.D. programme. The faculty of Mathematics Department is engaged in research in the fields of

  • Spherically symmetric space-time in general theory of relativity
  • The character K for the spherically symmetric space-time
  • Gauge theories of gravity
  • Gravitational repulsion in the general theory of relativity
  • Information Theory
  • Numerical Methods
  • Fuzzy sets and fuzzy logic

The staff members of Applied Mathematics have published 38 research papers in various journals of National and International repute. "Give me some space to stand, I will weigh the Earth" said Archimedes. Mathematics is essential in every walk of our life. Moreover, there is no such thing called engineering without the involvement of this great subject. Not only just to carry the tradition but also to encourage the mathematical talent of students the Applied Mathematics Department has been organizing various activities  through the 'Mathematical Club'.

4 HUMANTIES : ENGLISH & SOCIAL SCIENCE

Presently teaching for I.B.E. students and putting efforts for overall personality development of Engineers, Architects and Managers.  This branch has established a Language Lab which offers training to students as well as staff in communication skills, public speaking and business English etc.  The total coast of equipment in this lab is more than 1.36 lakhs.  The branch also maintains several books on English and allied topics.  Presently two staff members are working and pursuing for their Ph.D. viz.
