The computer has become the part and parcel of life, varying from simple business applications that have direct impact on day to day life to the complex simulations in industry and space. The computer and IT related services industries are generating the jobs at an exponential rate. Keeping this in mind, the Department of Computer Technology was established in 1986 to offer a four year B.E. Programme in Computer Technology with an annual intake of 60 students.

Over the last 24 years the Department was instrumental in grooming many young and dynamic computer and IT professionals. This Department was a forerunner in starting a four year B.E. programme in Information Technology in the R.T.M. Nagpur University, Nagpur during the year 1999.

Looking at the untiring efforts put by the department, its state of the art laboratories and well-qualified staff members, the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi recognized the department as “Accredited” in the year 2001. The department houses a repository of books – the Departmental library, with around 621 titles from different orientations of computer engineering and information technology. The departmental library also has around 177 volumes of Video CDs of eminent professors from IITs on subjects like Database Management Systems, Data Structures, Software Engineering, Digital Image Processing, etc.

The Department has been sponsoring the staff members to pursue higher studies at IITs and IISc, and also encourages them to undergo staff development program's and short term courses. The strength of the department also lies in its qualified and trained supporting staff, which include Systems Officer, Programmer & DEO.
